I wanted a low priced Blu-ray player primarily for the upconversion of my existing dvds and the occasional Blu-ray rental. My first two purchases (other models) went back to the store for interminable wait times at power up and menu, and freezing while playing dvd’s. I’ve had this Toshiba for several weeks now and I love it. Unlike some other reviewers I haven’t encountered the whine on loading discs and the response time of the remote and disk load is fantastic. My dvds look so good that the kids want to use the television in my room instead of the family television now. I rented a few Blu-ray discs to test out the players lag time on those discs and was really impressed. There seemed to be no difference at all. I hooked it up with an HDMI cable and it was ready to go. Better performance than a higher priced model I tried. If you’re looking for a low cost everyday unit without needing all the possible bells and whistles, this is definitely the way to go.

As a HD-DVD and Toshiba fan I held off on getting a Blu Ray player but as everbody around me was getting one I knew it wouldn’t be long before I jumped to the blu ray camp. I waited for this player and I’m glad I did. The design is nice though the remote looks like frankenstien. Loading times are about the same as my HD DVD player, the menus and options make this player easy to set up and the picture quality is excellent!! I’m Watching Ghostbusters on blu ray and it looks amazing. Thank you Toshiba for joining the blu ray camp!! 5 stars!

This is the first blu ray player I have owned. Blu-rays are known to be slower than their DVD counterparts, and this player sticks to that fashion. It seems as it depends more on the blu ray itself though rather than the player. Some discs load extremely quick and some are slower.

Overall the player has a nice sleek design. It’s easy to use, easy to navigate. It doesn’t have some extras that other blu ray players have such as pandora or netflix, but honestly, how many devices do you need in your living room that have those capabilities?

I would give it five stars except I was hoping that this player wouldn’t inherit the inability to remember where you left off in a movie. With a dvd you can hit stop once, if you hit play again it will pick up in the same spot and if you hit stop twice it will restart the DVD. To my knowledge no blu ray player does this.
