Great Picture, Not so great blacks, Should have waited., April 5, 2010

Well, first off, let me say this television is by no means bad. The picture quality is fantastic and the 240hz feature takes some getting used to, but brings you closer to the movies in a more personal way. 240hz will seem a little weird at first, but give it a try.

One thing I have to note, however, is that the “flashlighting” “spotting” effects have unfortunatly made their way to my TV since day one. I do most of my watching in the evening in a dark room, so whenever the screen goes to black I see the splotching clearly and bright as day. It’s really a let down for how much I paid ($2,500 in december, ill get to that later..) . .
For the price of this TV they should have really ironed out those problems beforehand, or do a recall or a firmware update to fix it. I heard it has something to do with the LED being side lit. Inexcusable in my opinion.

Lastly, I am very disapointed to see the price of the B8000 55″ go down $600 a week after I purchased it for a whopping $2,500. Technology advances, I can understand, but they should have let the consumers know the “C” line was coming. So basically, IF I would have waited a couple weeks I could have gotten a UN55C7000 with almost twice the contrast ratio, 3d ready, and no flashlighting. I really feel screwed over.

After viewing the FAQ on the samsung website, they claim the B series is not 3d ready and never will be 3d ready. So those of us who just upgraded to what we thought was the cutting edge, best, new LED TV two weeks ago will be quick to learn the TV is infact an incompitant and over priced LED TV.

Now that the television has dropped nearly $800.00 in price, it really is a great buy for ANY consumer. You’re getting a lot of TV for that price. If you have the opportunity to grab the C7000 for five hundred dollars more, definetly go for it. I still feel the TV should be lowered in price.

I have owned Sony televisions exclusively for the past 30 years. I was in the market for a new TV to replace my older Sony 50″ Grand WEGA LCD projection set. I always keep up with new technologies in consumer electronics and knew that LED backlighting was the way to go. One day, I visited Best Buy to see the new Sony models. I was particularly interested in the Sony Bravia XBR8 LED TV. It has an awesome display, but I couldn’t bring myself to part with $5K for a TV. The high price was a big disappointment. I knew Samsung made LED models so I decided to check them out too. I was immediately floored. They looked far better than Sony’s more expensive LED model and for $2K less. But, was I really willing to purchase something other than a Sony TV? I would have to be convinced. I did a lot of research on these Samsung sets. I demoed them in several stores and read as many reviews as possible. IMO, the Samsung LED TVs are by far the best technology currently available. Their display must be seen to be believed. Most impressive of all, is the fact that Samsung accomplished this in a set that is only 1.2″ thick.

Well, I was finally convinced and decided to purchase the Samsung UN55B8000. I have owned it for almost a month now and I am in awe every time I watch it. This set is beautiful even when it’s turned off. But, you won’t want to turn it off because the clarity, detail, brightness, contrast and color are absolutely exceptional. For the first time I have owned a TV, I did not have to make any adjustments to the factory settings – it looked perfect right out of the box. In fact, I had purchased a calibration DVD and was surprised to find that I didn’t have to make any adjustment to any controls.

Of course, the most amazing thing about this set and what intially lured me to it is its picture quality. It’s difficult to explain the level of detail it produces. I have HD cable programming (1080i), which looks fantastic. Games on the Xbox 360 pops out at you. But the images produced from a Blu-ray source is absolutely breath-taking. I was also pleasantly surprised at how bright the display looks in my sunlit family room. I thought I would have to adjust the brightness to view the set in daylight and again when watching at night as I did with our old Sony TV. Although the screen on the UN55B8000 has a gloss finish, it does a great job of reducing glare and reflections.

I do want to respond to the negative comments that others have posted here regarding uneven backlighting or vignetting effect caused by the edge-lit LEDs when the TV displays dark images. The only time I notice this was when the set displays a totally black background such as in movie credits. At best, it appears as a very faint illumination from the corner. But even then, I really had to look for it. I don’t think this is an issue at all; at least not one that should deter anyone from purchasing this incredible TV. I have to assume that those that have experienced this anomaly are probably looking at an uncalibrated set that has its brightness level turned way too high.

I took advantage of the slim design of this set and purchased the ultra slim wall mount. The TV hangs like a picture frame and looks like a masterpiece, which it is. The slim case houses adequate speakers, producing fairly good sound quality for normal TV viewing. Of course, you would want to watch movies through a surround sound system.

As for the other features of this set; the internet widgets are pretty cool, but slow. I especially like the YouTube widget. The DLNA network feature is also a nice addition, but the interface is also slow and not very intuitive. I’m hoping that a future firmware upgrade would improve the functionality. The content library feature is my favorite. It allows you to display a slideshow of artwork or other pics with soft background music – great for parties. I am extremely pleased with this television and would recommend it to anyone.

The TV is the best in it’s class. The thing I like most about it is that the viewing radius is a lot wider than on most of the 19-26″ LCDs.

Pros:
Great picture quality
Great colors
Wider viewing radius than most TVs in the class (especially from the bottom/top)
Easy picture size adjustments (does not automatically force the change)
Good sound quality
Standard mounting bracket on the back
Removable base
Most conceivable inputs

Delivered in a timely manner and as advertised. This is a nice TV. Took it out of the box and hooked it up with no problems. Picture quality does depend on the quality of the input signal, think about it. I have it hooked up to a good cable signal and the picture is great. Nice selection of inputs. Only complaint is the speaker volume. In a quiet room there wouldn’t be a problem. I watch it while riding my Airdyne exercise bike and it needs the aux. speakers I hooked up to it so I can hear it above the ambient noise. Still was a good buy.

Arrived today after ordering 2 days ago. Great!

Hooked it to the cable and let it set up. The digital tuner is picking up more on the cable than the analogs do.

The picture is perfect. No adjustments were necessary.

The sound for some maybe an issue as full sound will not drive you out of the room, but for me in my kitchen set up is more than enough.

The remote is a little weird with volume being placed above the channel changer instead of left and right. It would not stop me from buying this TV.

I am considering buying a second one for my computer room, as it is much better than my monitor picture in a picture.

This is an excellent item for the price, and only consumes 28 watts running and less than a watt on standby.

My wife brought me to Walmart, walked me over to the electronics section, and to my surprise we stopped in front of the 22 inch tvs and she said go ahead, pick one. I chose this 22 inch Vizio. It was either this or an RCA. I have an RCA tube tv and have always been impressed with the life span of that tv, considering I’ve had it since 2001 and it still works jsut like the day I bought it. I liked the picture quality in store on the Vizio over the RCA and liked the fact that it has 2 HDMI ports over the RCAs 1. I took a chance and boubght the Vizio, brought it home, plugged it in, scanned for over-the-air channels, and the moment I seen CBS in High def, my jaw dropped. The picture quality is cleaner and crisper than anything I’ve ever seen before, and the sound is just as good! I have an Xbox 360, and composite cables so I dont get the full High def experience, but it looks amazing just through those cables. Lucky for me, I just recieved my HDMI cables I bought for like 3 bucks here on AMazon, and get to see what its like later . I definately recommend this tv to anyone who’s doubting Vizios quality or lcd line. Oh, and be smart, buy an extended warranty like I did…I hear all of these complaints about people buying expensive tvs, and then having them break down a month after the manufacturer warranty…HELLO!!!!If your goinna spend 500 bucks on a tv, buy extra coverage!!!

I am very happy with this VIZIO HDTV. I have never owned a VIZIO before and I am definitely sold on the brand!! I was very fortunate to time the purchase right when Amazon had the TV for $209, now it’s $228. It would still be a good value at $250 though. Free standard shipping only took 3 days. Opened the box, hooked up my cable, plugged it in and about 10 minutes later it had detected all my channels, including HD channels. The picture is fantastic for my HD channels and very good for the non-HD. I don’t see any negatives for this TV other than maybe the channel and volume controls on the remote are reversed from most remotes. No big deal though. Definitely a great value!

I received this tv today LESS than 24 hours after I ordered it! Nice lookong tv…..the sound in the bedroom area is fine, picture very good, number of indoor antenna channels incredible, very good deal great price. BTW the yellow glow and white glow very subdued ALL tv’s have a light now….

Don’t let others change your mind on this vizio 22′ inch tv. i bought this tv for my gr8 nephew picture shows great, volume is wonderful not tiddy as a buyer said.And vizio placed an Hdmi cord inside the packaging.I notice the stand is different now reminds you of the stand on the samsung tvs.The older stands are wider. Factory settings are great unless you want to tune down your colors

I purchased this TV for my 13 year old after repainting his room and kicking out his younger brother. The picture is clear and very vibrant. Side and angle viewing is also good. The audio has an SRS surround mode which sounds great at higher levels. At low levels it can be a bit empty with little bass but if you turn it up great spatial sound comes through. Remember, when you are looking at these TV’s at your local WalMart what you are seeing is a direct feed digital signal, DO NOT expect this kind of quality unless you have high def reception or are watching a DVD. Also, depending on how your cable provider sends it’s signal you may still see black bars on the top and bottom of the pictue. I spoke with Vizio Support about this and they were very helpful and explained. To be honest, my old 19inch CRT still has a bigger and better picture for normal television viewing!
